Doncaster College and University Centre educates almost 11,000 students and employs 900 staff, who travel from all over the region and further afield, which means good transport links are vitally important.
For the region to continue to prosper, and attract the inward investment it needs to ensure that many of the talented students who choose to attend Doncaster College, and other educational establishments in the region, are encouraged to stay and build their future careers here.
The Principal and Chief Executive of Doncaster College believes that having a major infrastructure project coming through the region will help achieve this. They currently have more than 1,000 apprentices working in industry and 350 apprentices working in the rail sector. There is a realisation that Doncaster is a rail town, one which has a significant part to play in the future of HS2. HS2 East will provide new hope and motivation for young people in the region, offering a range of employment and career opportunities during the construction process and beyond.
Local business will grow as a result of the supply chain opportunities available and new jobs will be created. It is the dawn of a new era and will provide a major boost for the region’s rail industry.
